Beat The Dealer - April of 2008

Q: My car is unreliable. I need another car but I’m embarrassed to go to a dealership because my credit is bad & I think they’ll just turn me down. Suggestions? – Anonymous in High Point, NC

A: Don’t be embarrassed. An estimated 70% of Americans have bad credit. Most people with bad credit incorrectly ASSUME they can’t buy a car. Perhaps they’ve been turned down in the past. But bad credit isn’t enough to keep a professional, caring, and courteous dealership from helping you own the vehicle you deserve. A dealer with appropriate experience and relationships should be able to connect you with a number of different financing opportunities regardless of your credit situation. Most don’t know that banks are generally looking for a diverse lending portfolio. That means that while they love to make loans to people with good credit, they also need to make loans to people with bad credit.
So if you’ve had credit problems in the past, don’t let that be a deterrent. If you have concerns about your credit, call a few dealerships and arrange an appointment to visit the dealership and speak with their Credit Specialist about your situation and discuss available opportunities.
